This is a pitcher plant, a carnivorous plant that traps insects in the funnel-shaped leaves that fill up with rainwater and dew. It actually absorbs the insects as they decompose. I found this one and many others at the Purdon Conservation Area outside of Lanark, Ontario. I have an idea to do each of Canada's provincial flowers in pen and ink. This one is the second of the series, it is the provincial flower of Newfoundland and Labrador. Imagine that!
