Brenda's Art Classes - Drawing and Watercolour and Acrylic Painting In-Person Classes
Nature in Watercolour
Tuesdays, September 23rd to October 28th 2025 (6 classes) 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Trinity Presbyterian Church 1817 Richardson Side Road, Kanata, ON. |

This class is intended for intermediate artists who should have some familiarity with basic watercolour techniques, such as painting wet-in-wet.
The subjects will vary from leaves and flowers to trees and bushes. We will cover the following:
We will create scientifically accurate botanical paintings, followed by more creative, artistic paintings with a looser style, all based on nature.
The subjects will vary from leaves and flowers to trees and bushes. We will cover the following:
- photographing flowers for painting
- composition,
- Values, hard and soft edges, textures, tone and form
- study of botanical drawing and watercolour painting
- Drawing Fundamentals - basic drawing techniques to advanced skills required for the analysis of complex forms in watercolour.
- Colour theory
We will create scientifically accurate botanical paintings, followed by more creative, artistic paintings with a looser style, all based on nature.

Watercolour Painting
Brenda teaches all the basics of watercolour painting from supplies and materials, watercolour washes and brushstrokes. Learn how to paint relaxing landscapes, exciting seascapes and portraits with personality. Whatever you want to paint, Brenda can show you how.

As it flows it has its own mind and students will learn how to adapt with unexpected changes and how to adapt and use them in their paintings.

Learn acrylic painting on canvas. Brenda will teach you about the basic painting supplies, how to use the different mediums and what each one is designed for, you will learn basic colour mixing, composition, brushstrokes, painting layout and design. She will give you step by step instructions as you learn about values, lighting and focus.
Beginners are most welcome in all her classes, she feels so has so much to give to them!

Brenda teaches classes in drawing. Drawing is the foundation of everything artistic. Yes I can teach you painting if you don't know how to draw but you would need to copy or trace your image from photographs. Learn how to align your hand with your eye so you can draw as your eye follows the outline of a form. Learn the basics of light and shadow. You will be able to use everything you learn here in your paintings. A good drawing in itself is a work of art.
